(Sold) Coco - $4,000
Note: I am currently working with only one arm while my “crushed” left elbow heals. Yes, I am still able to ride Coco. No, I can’t get very good videos very quickly. Please be patient while I continue to work on gathering more footage!
2005 15hh grade tri-color paint gelding. Coco is a certified babysitter on the trails, has crossed everything he’s been pointed at without a fuss. Water, logs, ditches, deadfall, etc. Rusty in the arena, has been a trail horse for many years. Good manners, has been handled enough by novices that he’ll get a little pushy on occasion. Nothing a simple correction doesn’t fix. Straightforward ride, easy keeper. Will move cattle, push them through chutes, let you open/close gates on him. More whoa than go but it doesn’t take a marathon’s worth of effort to get him moving. Will pony other horses and let the kids climb all over him. Doesn’t mind traffic, dogs, bikes, balloons, parades, farm machinery, spooking horses, and the like.
Coco was purchased as a trail horse from South Dakota in 2020, and unfortunately his owner’s kids didn’t quite take to riding as much as his owner had hoped. They used him occasionally over the next two years but not enough to justify keeping him. He was used as a kids camp horse this summer, did great packing beginners down the trail. Had an allergic-type reaction to something, we believe it was an invasive fungus related to some CRP land nearby the pasture. Dropped weight, but some dexamethasone and antihistamine cleared it up without issue. Unlikely to reoccur but it’s possible Coco could need another dose of antihistamines around allergy season in the future. No maintenance otherwise, has been putting weight back on nicely on nothing but grass hay and mostly dead pasture.
Big, sound, fella with clean legs. Kept UTD on teeth, shots, Coggins, and feet.
Asking $4,000 or best offer for this guy. Special considerations will be made to a 4H or youth home.
Great with the kids, got along well with the other horses, never crowded the horse in front or cared if the horse behind got too close. Stands for vet/farrier, trailers well, ties, clips, bathes, ponies, etc. Easy keeper, barefoot. Doesn’t get hot if he does get grain or alfalfa, just fat. Will come up from pasture when called or let you catch him where he stands. I wouldn’t call him show-ring ready if you’re aiming for an easy win, but you won’t cause a crash or get laughed out of the ring on him either.
Coco would be an asset to a lesson program, very forgiving, patient, takes a joke. He would also make a good 4H, youth, beer-drinking, hunting, pack, dude ranch, or husband horse. Same horse with time off, unload and ride type, no prep needed. Will lead, follow, or be in the middle on group rides, will go out alone. Coco would be a solid option for anyone looking for that trusty, sit-back and enjoy horse they don’t have to worry about getting squirrely or cold-backed.
