(Sold) HRMF Rebel Commander (Mando) - $3,500

2007 15.2hh chestnut registered Morgan gelding. Well broke as a young horse but hadn’t been ridden in about 8 years when we got him. Has been alone and unhandled for about 5 years. Lifts all 4 feet, ties, loads, stands to be saddled, decent ground manners but can be a bit pushy. Friendly, in your pocket type. Though green to ride and drive, Mando hasn’t offered any rank behavior. Can easily tell there’s a lot of horse to him, so will need someone who isn’t intimidated by his size. Came very overweight, but will always be a very large, powerful horse. HUGE hip to match the classic big Morgan shoulder, pulling power of a small draft with the speed and athleticism of trotter, and a heaping of grit and hardiness of a cowhorse. In essence, a classical Morgan that would make a superb addition to a variety of programs.

Mando was well started under saddle and ridden until about 2014 when he was sold to the previous owner. As a young horse, Mando would WTC under saddle with a handy teenager on him. After sold, Mando didn’t click well with new owner, but was still used as a pack horse on hunting trips out west in the mountains. Great traveler and easy to handle, but owner lost his riding horse in 2017 and Mando has been sitting ever since.

Though he is an absolute powerhouse, Mando doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and just wants to be your buddy. Will need someone who can continue giving him a refresher under saddle. Steering, stopping, and starting need some work. It’s there, just takes a little time/effort to get him to realize you’re cueing him and then for him to respond. This guy is so strong and sporty, would make an outstanding pleasure/trail horse or let him strut his stuff in the show ring of your choice.

Excellent conformation, this big guy could easily carry larger riders across through tough terrain. Comes right up to you, gets along well with mares and geldings. Towards the bottom of pecking order. Still tends to drift towards other horses, not truly buddy sour but you can tell he’s very much missed being around other horses. Rock hard feet, was kept on a partial cement pad thus managed to keep his hooves relatively shapely, considering he hasn’t seen a farrier in 8 or so years.

Nice hard feet, solid guy with plenty of bone. Still getting back into the swing of things, did a little better steering with a side pull than with a bit. Will snort a bit, but reasonably brave guy, doesn’t mind dogs, traffic, tarps, fly spray, plastic bags, etc. Very food motivated and teachable.

Clean legged and sound, Mando is UTD on all cares, teeth, feet, shots, etc. Located in Bondurant, Iowa, asking $3,500.

Topside Century On Command was a champion in his own right, competing at the regional and national levels in driving. However, he is most noted as a sire of many top Morgans, who have been successful in a wide variety of disciplines.

It can be argued that Waseeka’s In Command, the son of the famous Waseeka’s Nocturne and a well-bred Government mare, is the most influential Morgan sire of the twentieth century. He was a prime example of a stallion, with substance and style. Though he was very successful as a show horse, his true legacy was his ability to produce consistently outstanding offspring. Through an outstanding crop of sons, In Command’s blood is found in many of today’s most successful show horses.

Janie Hawk (Roubidoux x Kitty Hawk), a mare of predominantly Brunk heritage through Jubilee King and Flyhawk was bred to Trophy to produce Trophy’s Jubilee, Trophy’s K B J, Tamhattah Trophette and Trophy’s Irish Lady. Irish Lady was bred to Superb Creation (Chasley Superman x Trophy’s Cupid) getting two exceptional individuals. Adventure’s Nicole was the first of these. Full brother Legacys Viking garnered twelve World and Grand National Championships in park harness and park saddle. His double dose of Trophy gave him incredible star power and four-wheel drive. Perhaps his most memorable performance came as a senior citizen when he returned to the show ring as a legend with Glenn Bouvier catch riding to give a performance that could have won the world. Oh Faithful Heart carries her own impressive show record in hunter and English pleasure, in addition to being a proven producer. Full brother to Mando, HRMF Aces High Command was a champion pleasure driving and English pleasure horse. Full sister HRMF Gemma carries several World Championships, driving and under saddle, and HRMF Lilly Of The Valley also made a name for herself as an exceptional producer.

Van Lu Starbuck, an impressive black stallion, was an 1984 World Champion. Noted as an outstanding ambassador of the Morgan breed in Virginia, sired several regional and world champions. Remains a staple among many East Coast Morgan breeders.
