(Sold) Apollo - $2,000
Apollo is a 2011 chestnut thoroughbred gelding. Raced but was restarted off the track and in a professional program until 2020, when he was purchased for a trail horse. Unfortunately, his family had limited time to work with him, primarily using him for beginner-intermediate riders around the farm and on the trail. Apollo learned he could push people around, so will need a home with someone confident or a trainer. It was hoped he could be used for my mom’s non-profit but is too smart to make it as a kid’s camp horse. WITH trainer supervision, we believe Apollo could once again become more beginner-friendly for lessons, etc.
Solid WTC, has a soft bend, moves through his back, knows leads, moves off leg, etc. Hasn’t been ridden much in the last couple of years so needs to be brought back into working shape. Soft mouth, rides well in just a snaffle. Will lead or follow in groups and ride out alone. Not spooky, fine with dogs, farm equipment, wildlife, kids, traffic, etc.
If taken away from his friends, Apollo will get pushy on the ground and will quit paying attention to his handler. Isn’t trying to hurt you but will walk all over you if you let him. Tries to bluff his way out of work using antics he learned intimidated his previous owners, i.e. dancing and pawing while saddling, prancing and tossing his head after you get on. Neither his previous owner or I have ever had him buck, rear, bolt, or do anything else mean/dangerous under saddle, but he learned that a scared rider would get off him.
Now, his attitude doesn’t make him all bad, Apollo is a brave/bold horse who’s confident on the trail and crossing obstacles. I’m trying to avoid “project horse hoarding”, else I’d keep him as an eventing prospect. Pretty mover and smart enough to take advantage of someone’s inexperience, but also picks things up quickly and is very trainable. Once he realizes he can’t intimidate you, he settles in a pretty nice ride. With the right person, Apollo will make a very sharp horse.
Has always been kept UTD on shots, Coggins, teeth, feet, etc. Easy keeper, barefoot, gets along with mares and geldings.
Apollo is being at $2,000 to keep him from ending up in the loose pen. Price is negotiable to the right home with someone who can reinforce good behavior.
