(Sold) Rooster - $1,750
Rooster is a grade chestnut colt we picked up from a sale in April. According to his Coggins, Rooster is a yearling but the vet estimated him closer to 6-7 months old (DOB approximately September/October 2021). Leads, ties, trailers, picks up all 4 feet, bathes, and stands for fly spray. Plenty of chrome with 3 white socks and a star/strip on his face. Kind dark eye.
Comes to grain when called, pretty mover with a big floaty trot. Still has a bit of the baby “uglies” to grow out of but has nice straight legs and a good sized hip with a sloped croup. Gets along with other horses, respects fencing, easy keeper.
Has not been gelded (has descended) or had wolf teeth pulled yet (just starting to poke through), doesn’t act studly so we’re giving him a little more time to grow. Scheduled to see vet again August 2022 to reevaluate readiness to geld.
Very forgiving and easy going, doesn’t mind dogs, traffic, etc. Not a fan of fast movements around his head, but loves scratches all around his face and ears. Would make an excellent first project, under trainer supervision, has never offered to bite, kick, strike, etc. Does well around other horses or away from them. Tends more towards lazy-ing around than tearing laps along the pasture fence. Perfectly happy to stand around for grooming or to graze. Isn’t phased by much.
Located in Bondurant, Iowa. Currently priced at $1,750 obo, subject to increase as we continue his training and find out more about his breeding.
Rooster came through the sale with an alleged Morgan mare, who did not appear in the AMHA database via DNA. Supposed to be her yearling colt, but age doesn’t match up well with how far along she is in her current pregnancy. According to Coggins pulled at sale, Rooster is a Morgan cross. DNA sent to Texas A&M was primarily match to Haflinger, secondarily to Norwegian Fjord, and thirdly to a Spanish colonial breed. At this point, we can only guarantee he has 4 legs, a head, and a tail! Does appear to have some feathering and flaxen/roaning in his mane and tail, we have not had him color tested.
